Macondo started around 2005 from the ashes of another band called “Catástasis” in the downtown area of Limacity, Perú. When the band started looking for a second guitar and then loss their keyboard player, they started cultivating their own style and sound. Alonso Jimenez on drums, Ivan Leon on bass and Ricardo Barreto on guitar met guitarist Camilo Uriarte.

They decided to start fresh so they choose a new name, “Macondo”, to symbolize a magical and natural place. The band searched for a vocalist to convey their mystical sound but instead of waiting too much, Camilo and Ivan started singing themselves. They recorded their first album between 2007 and 2011 and released online for free on their bandcamp (macondo.bandcamp.com). The sound they achieved here is a result of their varied influences (post hardcore, post rock, progressive and psychedelic rock, noise) and life experiences.

With songs from 5 to 13 minutes long, they love conveying all the range of human emotions with fierce energy. From their beginnings they have played in all kinds of small venues, from shows in houses, constructions sites, San MarcosCollege, and all over the city of Lima. They are currently working on new songs for the next album and ready to continue playing more constantly everywhere they are needed.
